1106 square kilometres — the official surface area of Hong Kong's territory, and the title of this series begun in 2019. Charles de Vaivre works exclusively in black and white, a deliberate choice to strip the city of the chromatic saturation that usually defines its image — neon, signage, façades — and reveal its underlying structure: the vertical density, the play of shadow between towers, the interstices where a handmade gesture or a colonial building slated for demolition still survives.
